Pivotal Client Application Is Impersonated by the PBS User on All End User Machines

Article Original Creation Date: 2015-08-31

Overview

On end-user machines, all tasks are executed using the security context of the Pivotal Business Server (PBS) user. This means when end users launch Pivotal Client, the subjects/tasks are displayed depending upon the security group of the PBS user.

When end users modify records, the rn_edit_user name displayed in the ED (Enterprise Data) is that of the PBS user.

Environment

Pivotal 6.0.5.x

Root Cause

In IIS > ePower > Basic Setting > Connect As > PBS user credentials were passed. Any request that is handed to a process needs a user identity.

This identity is generally obtained depending upon the authentication we have on the website. If it is Windows Authentication, then the logged in users credentials will be used as an identity. But in this case, the customer had set "Connect As" to PBS user which led to this behavior.

Resolution

  1. Navigate to IIS > ePower > Basic Setting > Connect As.
  2. Clear PBS user credentials if it has been set already.
